Begin your adventure in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and end in Kandersteg. Along the way, explore dramatic waterfalls (with options to hike under one and see another underground), ascend through alpine meadows and glacier valleys to high alpine ridges, and stroll past the Oeschinensee, a lake that makes a legitimate claim to be Switzerland’s most beautiful.
Your English-speaking, Swiss-American dual-citizen guide will take you safely through this dramatic landscape, sharing local insights along the way and ensuring a pace that matches your ability and motivation. He will handle all of the arrangements from the time you meet in Interlaken until you return to Interlaken 4 days, and a trip of a lifetime experience later.
After a morning exploring the Lauterbrunnen Valley, we'll take a gondola up the first step to the start of our hike. From there, we'll climb steeply through a forest and behind (yes behind!) a waterfall to where the trail levels off, but don't worry, we have plenty of time and the views of the Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau and nearby mountains will keep us energised. We'll dine and sleep at a classic Swiss alpine hut that evening.
The following day, we'll wind over a pass at the foot of rugged peaks before descending to a remote mountain village where we'll replenish our energy with gourmet meal and a night in a deluxe mountain hotel.
The third day is a big one, but also the most rewarding. We'll have all day to hike up to our destination for the evening, a mountain hut perched at 2700m above sea level and overlooking an expanse of glaciers that feel so close you could touch them.
Our last day is all downhill. We'll take our time to savour the views (and save our knees) before reaching the famous Oeschinensee for a celebratory meal or drink. Then we'll descend by gondola to Kandersteg before our short train ride back to Interlaken.
Our two nights in alpine huts with one night in between in a deluxe mountain hotel are as much a part of the experience as the scenery and wildlife we'll see along the way. Eat family style at the huts on the first and third night, with a soup, main course, and dessert. On the second night, eat at the hotel restaurant where you can choose from a full menu of local specialities.
Enjoy simple and hearty breakfasts at the hut, and fill up at the hotel for your big climb with a gourmet breakfast buffet that day. Beer, wine, and spirits are available at each place but are not included in the price of the trek.
