Udawalawe National Park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir.

Udawalwe is the place to visit if you are focussed on elefants. The chance to see some of these animals from a very short distance are extremely high. But the scrubs in this park are extremely dense that you might not see too many other animals.
