Embark on an unforgettable journey through Welsh history, heritage, and natural beauty with our Three Castles and Welsh Mountains tour - perfect for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and nature seekers alike.
Your day begins in the vibrant city of Cardiff with a drive-by of Cardiff Castle, a striking landmark that has stood for over 2,000 years. Once a Roman fort, later a Norman stronghold, and eventually transformed into a lavish Victorian palace, it’s an iconic gateway to Wales’ layered past.
We then whisk you away to the enchanting Castell Coch*, nestled in the wooded hills of Tongwynlais. This 19th-century Gothic Revival masterpiece, designed by architect William Burges for the Marquess of Bute, is known as Wales’ ‘fairy-tale castle’ thanks to its romantic turrets, conical roofs, and richly decorated interiors.
*Please note, Castell Coch is currently under renovation works. Whilst you can still enter the castle, the opportunity to walk around the grounds of the castle is currently limited.
Next, explore the magnificent Caerphilly Castle - the largest castle in Wales. Surrounded by vast water defences and boasting dramatic towers, it’s a true feat of medieval engineering. Discover its fascinating history, admire the famously leaning tower, and enjoy free time for lunch in the town, with stunning views of this formidable fortress.
We then travel north to Cyfarthfa Castle, an impressive 19th-century mansion once home to the Crawshay family, who owned the world-renowned Cyfarthfa Ironworks. Now a museum and gallery, it showcases Wales’ industrial heritage, fine art, and social history, all set within beautiful parkland.
The tour continues with a scenic drive through Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), renowned for its rugged peaks, rolling green hills, and breathtaking views. Keep an eye out for local wildlife and hear tales of ancient Welsh myths that echo through the landscape.
Our final stop is the charming market town of Brecon, where you can unwind with a walk along the peaceful canal - often voted Britain’s prettiest - or explore the serene Brecon Cathedral, a 12th-century gem steeped in history and surrounded by tranquil gardens.
With an blend of castles, countryside, and culture, this tour offers a captivating snapshot of South Wales’ finest treasures - all in one unforgettable day.
