Discover Hallstatt the way it's meant to be seen — slowly, with great food, and with a guide who knows the village inside out. This small-group day trip (maximum 6 guests) takes you from Vienna through the Austrian countryside, beginning with a curated picnic at peaceful Lake Traunsee before guiding you through one of Europe's most iconic villages.
Your English-speaking host meets you in Vienna for the start of the day. We travel in a comfortable air-conditioned minivan through the scenic Salzkammergut lake region to our first stop: a quiet meadow on Lake Traunsee, with views of the lake and the Traunstein mountain peak.
Your host sets up a curated picnic featuring fresh croissants and pastries, Slovak and Austrian cheeses, regional charcuterie, seasonal fruit, sweet pastries, sparkling water, and fresh apple juice. You'll have around 90 minutes to relax, eat, take photos, and breathe in the alpine air before we continue.
From Traunsee, we drive a short scenic route to Hallstatt — the UNESCO-listed lakeside village famous for its wooden houses, dramatic mountain backdrop, and centuries of salt-mining history. Your host walks you through the village, sharing the stories behind the architecture, the church, the market square, and the legendary Hallstatt viewpoint. You'll learn why this small village shaped European history and what makes it so unique today.
After the guided walk, you'll have free time to wander on your own, take photos, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (your host recommends a few), or take an optional boat ride. We then begin the scenic journey back to Vienna in the evening.
This experience is designed for travellers who want quality over crowds — couples, small friend groups, families, and photographers will all feel at home. Dietary needs are accommodated when noted at booking. Lunch in Hallstatt is on your own.
Transport, vignettes, parking, English-speaking guide, and the full picnic are all included.
