What you can expect

  • Discover the Waitomo Glowworm Caves and Te Puia in Rotorua with Cheeky Kiwi Travel. You travel in a small group in a modern, comfortable minibus, with water and snacks on board. Your local guide shares stories about New Zealand’s history and Māori culture throughout the day. Leave Auckland in the morning and drive south through the green farmland of the Waikato region, with a coffee stop in the small town of Pirongia.

    At the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, walk through the caves to see stalactites and stalagmites. Then take a quiet boat ride on an underground river beneath thousands of glowworms. There is time to buy lunch during the day.

    Due to the delicate ecosystem within the Waitomo Caves, photography is not permitted inside.

    At Te Puia, join a guided tour of the geothermal park and see the Pōhutu Geyser, hot mud pools and traditional Māori buildings. Visit the national Māori carving and weaving schools, and see a kiwi bird in the kiwi house. Then relax on the drive back to Auckland with your guide.
