What you can expect

  • Immerse yourself in a special underground adventure with the dark tour through the Saalfeld Fairy Caves. Equipped with miner's lamps, you will explore the partly unlit passages of the historic show mine and experience the fascination of the cave world in a completely authentic way. On the approximately 75-minute walking tour, you will learn interesting facts about the history of mining, the formation of the dripstone formations, and the function of old mine lamps – an atmosphere that you will not experience on a normal guided tour.

    Before the tour, you can visit the Grottoneum Adventure Museum and immerse yourself in the world of the fairy grottoes at interactive stations.

    This dark tour is suitable for adventurers, families with children over 8 years old, and anyone who wants to experience the wonders of nature and the secrets of the show mine up close.

    Please wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear, as the temperature underground is about 10 degrees. To protect your clothing, you will receive a coat free of charge.
