A 2-hour excursion taking you to a scenic red-rock canyon in the heart of Grand Falls, Windsor featuring one of the most intense and memorable sections of white water in Newfoundland & Labrador. Experience the excitement of rafting through an 80 foot vertical walled deep water canyon and riding a roller coaster of waves crashing around you.
The tour begins at beautiful Gorge Park in Grand Falls-Windsor. A short bus ride takes you across the historic paper mill trestle bridge where you will get a chance to peer 80ft down to the Exploits River and some of the amazing rapids you will be rafting. After a quick briefing from your guide, you will descend down a stone staircase while your guides zip line the boats down to the canyon floor. At the bottom you will have the opportunity to start your trip by cliff jumping 15ft into the river, the cliff jump is optional but highly recommended.
Before taking on the biggest rapids on the island the guides will spend some time teaching you the paddling skills you will need to get the most out of your trip. Once you are ready, the rafts will enter the current and the ride of your life will begin. On the river we guarantee that you will be soaked the entire time, and may even be thrown from the raft. The signature rapids on this trip include the “Mill Rapid” and the “Canyon Rapid”, both of which feature long wave trains with crashing waves up to 9ft high! Other great features include an awesome surfing wave, and the huge hits at “Paul's Falls” and the infamous “Virgin Wave”.
This tour is short and sweet so you can make it a quick stop on your journey or even sign up twice in a day without having to alter you trip. The Exploits Canyon Run includes admission to the Salmonid Interpretation Centre, which is well worth a visit to learn about the salmon that make the journey up the Exploits River every summer.
