Description

Enjoy a small-group tour and trace the history of the Jewish population in Prague. With the help of an expert in religious history, wander past cemeteries, explore the oldest active synagogue in Europe, and begin to unravel this complex community's traditions, tragedies and triumphs.

Trace the rich Jewish history in Prague as you study the original settlements close to the heart of Old Town. Your tour allows plenty of time to explore the many synagogues open to the public, including the Old New Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in Europe. Your next stop is the Jewish Cemetery, which dates back to the 15th century. Here your scholar discusses burial customs and rituals before moving towards the Jewish Town Hall.

After learning about Judah Loew ben Bezalel's legacy and how it has been tangled with the legend of Golem, decide for yourself what separates myth from reality. Finally, consider the melting pot of cultures – Jewish, German and Czech – that influenced many renowned writers and thinkers, Franz Kafka included.
