Overview

Escape the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu and spend your day exploring nature and cultural heritage. Watch the panoramic view of the Himalayas. A gentle walk along the lush mountain ridge overlooking the sprawling valleys and layers of mountains, with the Himalayas in the distance. Walk through the charming Tamang villages with ample opportunities to immerse into local culture. Watch their shamanistic and animistic worship and their daily chores. Look into their garden and terraces teeming with seasonal vegetables and fruits. A gentle walk from Nagarkot to Telkot gives you a glimpse of trekking in Nepal.
Visit the most beautiful of all the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Bhaktapur is known as a living museum as people still live in harmony with their medieval town. The maze-like brick town is bedecked with marvellous terracotta, wood, and stone carvings. Walk with an expert guide through its alleyways and discover the less touristic Bhaktapur.

Activity itinerary

Nagarkot

  • 3h
Nagarkot is the closest and the most beautiful Himalayan view point from Kathmandu. The 2,100 m hilltop offers a view of a wide range of the Himalayas. A day trip in the lush countryside unveils village lifestyle and countryside landscape view. A short walk is the best way to spend time in nature and learn about the local plants, birds and Tamang culture.

Nagarkot Panoramic Hiking Trail

  • 2h
A gradual downhill walk along the mountain ridge passes through the Tamang villages, farming terraces, temples and monasteries. The trail overlooks the sprawling Kathmandu valley with snow peaks towards the north. It passes through the courtyards of Tamang people and allows you to have a close look into their daily chores. Many of them make rice wine in their backyard. They grow all kinds of vegetables in their garden. Tamang follow shamanism mixed with Buddhism. They are believed to have migrated from Tibet 1000 years ago.

Bhaktapur

  • 2h
Visit the medieval city of Bhaktapur on the way back. A walk through the alleyways of Bhaktapur is like walking back into the time. Brick houses and monuments fitted with terracotta and wood carvings make it an open museum. Explore the charming areas with pavilions, sunken water spouts, temples and houses of gods and ponds and discover the palace square, peacock window, pottery square and the Nyatapola, the tallest temple of Nepal. The saying ' Every next day is a festival and every next house is a temple' still comes true here. You never know which turn you will encounter in a cultural ceremony.
