Overview

Whether you’re looking to celebrate a special moment or live the Douro as a real place, this 4-hour private cruise aboard the ‘Flusen’ is for you. While traditional boats are limited to the crowded circuit of the bridges, we take you on a journey of discovery that most visitors never know.

Starting from the modern Douro Marina, we bypass the peaceful Natural Reservation of the Estuary. First, you will slide under the six historic bridges, contemplating the colours of Ribeira do Porto and the grandiosity of the Caves de Gaia from a panoramic and unique angle for perfect photographs.

Then the scene transforms. The river expands, the shores become green and the silence reigns. You will discover the traditional village of Arnelas and the river beaches of Gondomar to the imposing Dam of Crestuma-Lever. In the middle of the route, we will make a strategic stop in the mythical Tasquinha Cais da Azenha, a rustic corner on the riverfront ideal to absorb the typical atmosphere.

Activity itinerary

Douro Marina (Pass by)

A picturesque and ancient fishing villa on the south bank (Gaia), known for its traditions linked to the sea, street fried fish restaurants and the public laundry. Just next door is the modern marina, an important nautical sports hub and the largest recreation port in northern Portugal.

Reserva Natural Estuario do Douro (Pass by)

Situated near the foz (in the area of Cabedelo), this protected area of sappal and dunes constitutes an essential refuge for local vegetation and for the observation of migratory birds that here find shelter and food.

Ribeira (Pass by)

As it advances into the interior, the river narrows and enters the historic heart. On the north bank, the stunning colourful hill of Ribeira do Porto (UNESCO World Heritage Site); on the south bank, the vibrant Cais de Gaia with its anchored ravel boats and the facades of the historic Caves do Vinho do Porto.

Mirodouro A Ponte D Luis L (Pass by)

Navigating through this piece allows you to pass through some of the country’s most famous engineering works. You will see the iconic Don Luis I Bridge (in iron with two boards), the elegant Infante Bridge, the historic Maria Pia Bridge (designed by Gustavo Eiffel), the railway Bridge of St. John and, finally, the busy Freixo Bridge.

Marina Do Freixo (Pass by)

Palácio do Freixo and Marina do Freixo: Located on the north bank, already in the transition out of the urban area, stands out this imposing 18th-century Baroque palace, designed by Nicolau Nasoni (now an Inn of Portugal). Right next door is the marina that serves as a support point for those who sail in this middle of the river.

Historical Villages of Portugal (Pass by)

Located in Olival (Gaia), Arnelas is a small and ancient rivery place that retains very traditional traits. Its small pier and the houses facing the river offer a bucolic and peaceful atmosphere, marking the beginning of the more rural landscape of the Douro.

Melres River Beach (Pass by)

As it approaches the final destination, the river expands and beautiful river beaches begin to emerge on the north bank (Gondomar), very sought after in the summer for swimming and for the practice of sports such as water skiing and canoeing.

Barragem de Crestuma-Lever (Pass by)

Douro Valley, the front door. Inaugurated in 1985, it is the last dam before the Douro foz (and the first for those who climb the river). In addition to producing energy and serving as a road crossing between Gaia and Gondomar, the great point of interest for those who go by boat is its sailing end. Watching or experiencing the process in which the boat enters the ecluse and is raised to about 14 metres high to continue the journey Douro above is an unforgettable experience.

Tasquinha Cais da Azenha

  • 2h
  • Admission ticket included
is an excellent strategic stop for those looking for an authentic and traditional gastronomic break, typical Portuguese tasca is located right in front of the river, offering a very own and rivery atmosphere. It is a simple, rustic and welcoming space, highly praised for sympathy and family care. The highlight goes to its balcony and windows with privileged and blurred views over the waters of the Douro, ideal for a relaxed lunch during the boat ride. Traditional Portuguese cuisine and homemade specialities. It stands out mainly for the dishes of fresh fish cooked without pretensions (like the grilled on the brasa), varied snacks to share and robust dishes of comfort that refer to the home-made and traditional food of the region.
