Spend a sobering day of remembrance in Normandy, visiting the beaches where the D-Day landings took place and paying your respects to fallen soldiers at stirring and serene memorials. On this day trip from Paris, visit the Omaha beache and walk among the graves at the Normandy American Cemetery.
Meet your guide in Paris at your private accomodation/hotel and settle into a comfortable, air-conditioned minibus for the ride north towards the Atlantic. Arrive at the Point du Hoc, where 90-foot (27-m) cliffs rise from the sea above Omaha Beach, where 225 American Rangers landed on the morning of June 6th, 1944. Absorb the stillness of the atmosphere at this powerful site as you look out over the crashing surf and stretches of sand where thousands perished.
Visit the Normandy American Cemetery in Colville-sur-Mer, where neat rows of 9,000 white crosses stretch across the lawns on a hill above the sea. .
Then visit other WWII locations such as Arromanches and the vestiges of the artificial Mulberry harbour, Longues-sur-Mer, and the German artillery battery, which gave the Allied troops a lot of pushback on the morning of June 6th. This is the only coastal battery to have kept its guns, giving a picture of what an Atlantic wall gun emplacement was like.
Your day trip ends with return to Paris.
