Activity itinerary

Baldwin Street: The Steepest Street in the World

  • 20m
Following a scenic drive from the Port our first stop is Baldwin Street. We stop here for 20minutes - enough time to walk to the top of the World's Steepest Street and back down again if you are keen. Your guide will give you some fun facts and figures at this stop. There is a public bathroom available at this stop.

Signal Hill

  • 20m
We climb to just over 1000ft and make our next stop at Signal Hill Lookout. On a clear day this is the premier panoramic photo opportunity of Dunedin City, Harbour and the surrounding Coast to the South. Your guide will share histories of the settlement of Dunedin City. Please note: on the rare occasion when fog is clamped in around the hills we may miss this stop as there will be nothing to see but grey cloud - we will spend our time elsewhere where we have views and points of interest.

Dunedin Botanic Garden (Pass by)

University of Otago

  • 20m
We will meander back down from the heavens to our next stop, the University of Otago. The first University to be established in New Zealand and a mainstay of the Local economy, the University is an opportunity to enjoy the exquisite architecture of the early Victorian/Gothic Revival buildings on site. Your guide will share a glimpse of University life in Dunedin and New Zealand. There is a public bathroom available at this stop.

Dunedin Railway Station

  • 30m
Our next stop is the Dunedin Railway Station. This iconic landmark sits proudly in the city centre. You will have time to admire both the interior and exterior of this grand station. The close by (2 min walk) Toitu Early Settlers Museum is free of charge and can be perused also. There are numerous cafes in close proximity so this is your chance to grab a bit of nourishment to bring back and enjoy on the bus before we head out to the Otago Peninsula. Your guide will share the history of the station and point you in the right direction for yummy food and coffee, Toitu Early Settlers Museum and local bespoke souvenir opportunities. There is a public bathroom available at this stop

Otago Peninsula

  • 1h
Upon leaving the Dunedin Railway Station we make our way to the Otago Peninsula. (On a clear day) beauty abounds as we traverse the "high road" with views of the expansive Otago Harbour, Dunedin City and Pacific Ocean. One of our guides has a very personal connection to the Otago Peninsula, their family having been proprietors since 1863. Your guide will share the history of the area, make a stop for photos and also point out wildlife viewing opportunities for when you get back onboard your cruise ship.

Dunedin Beach

  • 15m
Our next stop as we head back towards Dunedin City Centre is the stunning Smails Beach. We will stop overlooking the beach and enjoy the pure fresh air of New Zealand. Your guide will share fun facts about the beach and surrounding area and also give some background as to the wildlife in the area and the ecosystem that supports them.

First Church of Otago (Pass by)

Pass by

The Octagon

  • 25m
The final stop for our tour is the The Octagon - the heart of Dunedin City. Here you will observe the beautiful St Paul's Cathedral, take in the writer's walk (Dunedin is a UNESCO City of Literature), observe ol' Robbie Burns Statue overlooking the park, or find yourself a sweet treat from the gelato store (own cost). There are supermarkets/convenience stores, a pharmacy and souvenir stores close by. Your guide will share points of interest for your time here. There is a public bathroom available at this stop
