    Set off on your tranquil cruise from the shores of India's romantic city of Udaipur. Drift out across the calm, mirror-like waters and gaze out towards the purple-hued mountains as they rise up in the distance.

    Several islands dot the lake's surface, with two housing the majestic white marble palaces of Jag Madir and Jag Niwas. Observe the latter, also known as the Lake Palace, and understand why it consistently features in lists of the most romantic locations on earth.

    As lights from the town reflect in the waters, see the historic ghats, stairways down to the water that are still in use. The triple-arched Tripolia Ghat is particularly distinctive and a notable architectural landmark on the shoreline.
