Join us on one of the most amazing tours in northwestern Argentina: Salinas Grandes and Purmamarca, a journey that mixes otherworldly landscapes, charming villages, and the magic of the mountains.
The trip kicks off from Salta, heading north into the province of Jujuy along the legendary National Route 9. The first stop is the charming town of Purmamarca, famous for the stunning Cerro de los Siete Colores. Its adobe houses, cobbled streets, and craft markets create an authentic vibe, where visitors can enjoy crafts, textiles, and regional flavours.
From there, the ascent begins along the majestic Cuesta de Lipán, a mountain road full of curves and panoramic views that reaches over 4,000 metres above sea level. The journey is an unforgettable experience in itself: each curve offers unique views of the Andean valleys and mountains.
The reward comes when you get to Salinas Grandes, a huge white desert over 200 km² on the border between Salta and Jujuy. Here, nature blows you away with its endless stretch of crystalized salt that blends into the deep blue sky. Visitors can walk on the salt, check out the extraction pools, and snap some amazing photos where the perspective creates really cool effects. It feels like you're in a lunar landscape, totally different from anywhere else in the world.
During the tour, the guides share info about the geology, the history of salt mining, and the lives of the local communities in the region. On the way back, we'll make some strategic stops at high-altitude viewpoints to soak in the landscape and enjoy the coolness of the puna.
The combo of Purmamarca and Salinas Grandes makes this tour a total experience: culture, tradition, and extreme nature all in one unforgettable day.
