Day 1: The Artisan’s Touch & The Journey East
Begin your journey at the crossroads of luxury and tradition. After a private pickup from your Colombo hotel, head to Baza Boutique, a sanctuary of Sri Lankan craftsmanship. This is not a typical showroom visit; it is a behind-the-scenes masterclass.
Enter the workshop to meet master lapidarists who have spent decades perfecting the art of the “Ceylon Cut.” Watch as raw, dull stones are transformed into brilliant sapphires. Sit at the jeweller's bench, learn stone-setting techniques, and even help polish a gem.
With a new appreciation for the island’s treasures, begin your drive towards the Northeast coast. As the bustling city fades into the emerald-green landscapes of the central plains, stop for a traditional Sri Lankan lunch. By late afternoon, the air turns salty as you arrive in Trincomalee, one of the world’s finest natural harbours. After checking into your chosen resort, spend the evening watching the moon rise over the Indian Ocean.
Day 2: Ocean Giants & Sacred Cliffs
Start early, heading to the white sands of Nilaveli Beach. A private speedboat takes you on a 15-minute ride to Pigeon Island National Park. This is the crown jewel of Sri Lankan snorkelling. Under the guidance of your expert boatman, slip into crystal-clear waters to explore a vibrant coral reef.
Don’t be surprised if a Blacktip Reef Shark glides past you—these graceful residents are harmless and a thrill to see. Share the water with giant Green Sea Turtles and schools of iridescent Parrotfish.
In the afternoon, trade the sea for the sky. Visit Fort Frederick, where wild spotted deer roam freely among colonial ramparts. At the very tip of the promontory lies Koneswaram Temple, the “Temple of a Thousand Pillars.” Perched 130 feet above the crashing waves at Lover’s Leap, this sacred Hindu site is a riot of colour and incense. Hear the history of King Ravana and feel the spiritual energy that has drawn pilgrims here for over 2,000 years.
Day 3: Healing Waters & The return
On your final morning, visit the Kanniya Hot Springs. According to legend, these seven wells were created by King Ravana using his sword. Each well has a slightly different natural temperature; experience the local ritual of swimming with the healing, mineral-rich waters. It’s a refreshing and grounding way to end your East Coast adventure.
After a final seafood lunch by the bay, begin the comfortable drive back to Colombo, arriving by evening with your handmade memories.
