Depths range from 12 to 60 metres (40 to 197 feet), and sites to visit include cliffs, islets, coral pyramids, and a submerged moai in front of the cove. The marine fauna is impressive, with a large number of brightly coloured endemic fish, as well as sea turtles, which are frequently encountered in Hanga Roa Cove. It is important to note that the minimum age for diving is 10 years old and that diving is not recommended for people with asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, or respiratory diseases, or for pregnant women.

Sunken Moai: Located just a 4-minute boat ride away, this iconic dive site on Rapa Nui features a moai designed by Mike Rapu in honour of his grandfather. The moai is located at a depth of 23 metres (75 feet), surrounded by coral reefs. It is a relatively easy dive to a depth of 18 metres (60 feet), offering a variety of fish and marine life in an enjoyable 45-minute experience. Vai a Heva: A starting point for courses and introductory dives, Vai a Heva is ideal for those discovering the underwater world. Featuring a coral reef and a sandy seabed at a depth of 10 metres (33 feet), it offers a spectacle of colourful fish. Schools of surgeonfish appear at specific times, making it suitable for beginners and a delight for more experienced divers. The excellent visibility, which is maintained by preventing erosion, makes this one of the world’s top dive sites. Catedral: Named after an underwater cave, Catedral is a 20-minute boat ride away. At a depth of 15 metres (49 feet), sunlight creates an atmosphere reminiscent of a cathedral. Fish inhabit the dark interior, while outside, coral-covered rocks reflect the light. This is a low- to medium-difficulty dive, but paying attention to the currents is crucial. Jardín: Located 25 minutes to the northwest, Jardín features a pyramid-shaped underwater mountain covered in coral. Featuring trumpetfish, damselfish, and more, it offers a unique experience. At a depth of 30 metres (98 feet), a cavernous entrance beckons, creating an unforgettable landscape. Recommended for divers with intermediate to advanced experience. Omohi: An iconic dive, Omohi is located 30 minutes north of Hanga Roa and is of medium to high difficulty. Featuring volcanic fissures, it requires artificial lighting for the caves. Soldierfish, dusky groupers, and lobsters can be seen. The dive, which does not exceed 35–40 metres (115–130 feet), concludes with a controlled ascent, making for a truly memorable experience. Dive restrictions: Minimum age of 12 years, and the dive must be completed at least 48 hours before the flight. People with asthma may dive if their condition is under control and they have had no recent episodes.
