What you can expect

Canada’s military history comes to life at the Canadian War Museum. See artefacts from Canada’s wartime past and explore exhibits that delve into the experience of war, Canada’s role in the world’s conflicts, and instances of armed violence on Canadian soil.

With a collection of more than 2,500 objects in 8 different galleries, the Canadian War Museum offers a thorough portrait of life in wartime Canada and the profound impact that armed conflict has had on Canada’s development and identity as a nation. Explore displays that take you from alliances and rivalries amongst the First Nations to the American Revolution, and deepen your understanding of Canada’s role in World War II and the country’s espionage projects during the Cold War.

Stand next to tanks and artillery dating back to World War I in the Lebreton Gallery, home to a vast collection of vehicles, artillery, and other large artefacts from the 18th century to the present day. You can even see a McDonnell CF-1010 Voodoo interceptor that actually saw use by Canadian forces between 1961 and 1984.

Take a solemn moment to remember Canadians who have served and fallen in Memorial Hall and the Royal Canadian Legion Hall of Honour. Through personal stories and photographs, get to know the faces, names, and stories of the people behind these wars. Learn about the powerful symbolism of the bright poppies on the grounds outside—they’re a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day in the Commonwealth counties.
