The Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zărnești is one of the largest bear sanctuaries in Europe, dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of brown bears that have been kept in captivity or mistreated. The sanctuary provides a natural, protected environment for the bears, covering over 69 hectares (170 acres) of forested land in the Carpathian Mountains.
