Welcome to this unique city experience. In 2006 I created Alternative Berlin tours as an alternative to typical city tours. These tours were designed to show the real Berlin, the local places, street art and graffiti scenes and what it feels like to live like a Berliner. The concept influenced similar tours all over the world and in Berlin of course giving an incredibly diverse range of people including tourists, companies, students, special interest groups and world famous celebrities a taste of true essence of this complex, creative and magical city.
-On this tour experience we will navigate through hidden alleys, transformed industrial spaces, renowned “green” initiatives, alternative galleries and urban Innovations in Berlin. You'll get an understanding of the thriving counter-culture movements that emerged after the fall of the Berlin Wall and why so many people from expats, to film makers, musicians, startup companies, misfits and the free spirited decided to call this place their forever home.
,
-Visit creative living spaces, self-sustainability projects, and multicultural communities living side by side in “mostly” harmony but sometimes not.
The council estates, communal living apartments, squats and wagon communities that appeared after the fall of the wall.
-Discover some of the most iconic Street art, mural art and graffiti pieces and personal favourites way off the typical tourist path while learning about the famous artists, and the social / political messages behind this language of the street. Not only will you get to see some of the most jaw dropping, photogenic current pieces, I'm going to peel back the layers and tell you who and what previously existed there.
- Discuss the music scene from Punk, Hip hop, Jazz, Metal and of course Electronic music this city is famous for. The original gramophone parties in the 20's & 30's that were held as a rebellion against National socialism and compulsory youth groups. Hidden jazz, blues and swing dance events forbidden at the time. The underground fetish clubs, burlesque scenes with their roots in the 1920's.
-This tour will stop and take in a few of the vibrant and interesting local and multicultural neighbourhoods or “Kiez” as we call them where you can try some the local food and drink if your group desires. The nightlife and afterdark culture of this city is famous worldwide and I will give you some local tips, share some personal stories and let you immerse yourself in the Berlin lifestyle .
