Batumi city and municipality in Georgia, is the administrative centre of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. Batumi is the second most populous city in Georgia, a large international port on the southeastern coast of the Black Sea, an important industrial, cultural and tourist centre in Georgia.
The botanical garden occupies the south-western section of approximately 1 km long coastline between the mouth of Chakvitskali River and Green Cape, which extends from 0 to 220 metres above sea level. The garden is characterised by specific and diverse physical-geographical conditions.
Petra fortress is military-strategic and trade-economic location, in the 6th century, on the order of the Byzantine emperor Justinian , John Strategos built a castle in the 6th century on the site of this ancient settlement of Lazes , which was named “Justinian's city” in honour of this emperor
