1 Night / 2 Days Wildlife Spotting, Game Drive & Hot Spring Tour to Awash National Park
Day 1: Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Addis Ababa at 7:30 AM. We drive along the Motorway to Adama (formerly Nazret), a journey of approximately 1 hour. En route, we’ll make a stop at Beseka Lake, a birdwatcher's paradise, where you can observe various species such as the Striated and Black-headed Herons, Red-billed Teal, and the Common Crane, among others. After this birdwatching stop, we continue our 211 km journey to Awash National Park, a drive that will take about 4-5 hours depending on time spent birding.
Upon arrival, we’ll settle into one of the accommodation options available: a hotel in Awash Town (with air conditioning), camping, or Doho Lodge, a hot spring resort located about 20 km from the town. After checking in, we’ll head to the park’s gate and drive towards the Awash River. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife such as Beisa Oryx, Klipspringer, baboons, Grivet Monkeys, and various species of antelope. As the afternoon temperature cools, we’ll embark on a thrilling game drive, where you may spot Soemmerring’s Gazelle, Kudus, Warthogs, and the elusive Leopard or Lion. The park is also home to over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for bird watchers.
Day 2: After an early breakfast, we head out for a morning game drive, before continuing our journey to the Filwuha Hot Springs, a unique oasis in the midst of a lava desert. The area is rich in vegetation, with hot springs and mineral-rich pools, ideal for a relaxing soak. Birdlife here includes the rare Sombre Rock Chat, while the cliffs above are home to colonies of Hamadryas baboons. After visiting the hot springs, we will return to Awash Town for lunch, before driving back to Addis Ababa. If you are catching an international flight, we will ensure timely arrival at the airport. Alternatively, we will drop you back at your hotel, marking the end of a memorable safari experience.
