What you can expect

Just a few minutes' walk from the UT Austin campus, the Neill-Cochran House Museum is one of the city's oldest historic residences (1856), and includes Austin's only intact slave quarters. We share our site, Austin, and Texas history from the city's birth in 1839 up to 1930 through historically furnished spaces as well as numerous rotating art and history exhibitions.

Visitors to the Neill-Cochran House Museum can experience the site through docent-led or self-guided tours. Docent-led tours are limited to groups of 6 or more and must be arranged 3 days in advance. Self-guided tours include every part of the historic site, as well as access to our rotating art exhibitions. Recent exhibitions include “A Juneteenth Rodeo,” Sarah Bird's photography of 1970's Black rodeos, and “Freemasonry and the NCHM,” a look at the impact of the Freemasons on our site and the city of Austin.

Free parking is available behind the Museum, off 23rd Street between San Gabriel Street and Leon Street. First-floor historic rooms, exhibits, and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. Interpretive materials are available upon request for our second-floor exhibits and displays
