Description

Combine the spectacular scenery of Mount Teide with a great view of the heavens on a visit to a mountaintop vantage. This astronomical tour lets you admire the world's largest solar observatory from a setting that's as close to the stars as you can get on Tenerife.

You're picked up from your hotel in the afternoon for the ride to the mountain, where you're given a guided tour of the international observatory built near its peak. Get some great views of the towering active volcano, see how the facility takes advantage of its position in a sparsely populated corner of the island nearly a mile and a half (2.4 km) above sea level, and then wait for the rich colours of sunset.

After dark, your guide shows you to a professional-grade, long-range telescope for a look at the incredibly clear night sky. Your location just above the Tropic of Cancer allows you to spot 83 of the 88 officially recognised constellations, and your guide can point out planets, star clusters, and distant galaxies from one of the best viewpoints in the Atlantic, letting you unleash your inner astronomer on an outstanding night to remember.

Inclusions

Overall good tour, however, there’s room for improvement. The seats on the tour bus were very cramped. Tour guide was speaking to two groups in English and Russian, which I thought was too much. The trip to the winery for dinner was great, the food was pretty good but don’t expect to get full. The tour guides seemed to be very knowledgeable and the time looking in the telescopes was exciting.

Lovely experience. Included a detailed tour of Teide Observatory, time to appreciate the sunset and a great stargazing experience where we were able to view the moon and stars through the telescope. However, the downside is no food being included on the trip (when it's an 8 hour excursion). There's a chance to grab a snack from a vending machine towards the end, but that's all.
