Begin your adventure in Aktau and quickly head deep into wild territory, where civilisation disappears and vast horizons take over. Visit 8 key locations, each revealing a different face of this ancient land shaped by oceans, salt, wind, and time.
The first highlight is the Karagiye Depression, one of the deepest land depressions in the world. Surrounded by steep white cliffs and endless salt flats, this immense natural basin creates a feeling of absolute scale and isolation.
From here, continue to the Senek Sands, where golden dunes stretch to the horizon, evoking the atmosphere of the Sahara and offering stunning photo opportunities. Next, visit the Onere Spring, the largest natural water source in the Ustyurt Reserve. Its clear blue water cuts through the arid landscape, creating a rare oasis in the middle of the steppe.
Then, head to the legendary Karynzharyk Depression, a surreal salt desert dominated by three isolated rock formations known as the “Three Batyrs.” This place is often described as one of the most otherworldly landscapes in Kazakhstan.
Continue towards the colourful hills of Kyzylkup, famous for its layered red, white, and pink clays. Often compared to a giant “Tiramisu,” these formations preserve traces of the ancient Tethys Ocean that once covered this land. Each layer tells a storey millions of years old.
The final and most powerful chapter of the journey is Bozzhyra, explored from its lower, middle, and upper plateaus. Towering white cliffs, razor-sharp ridges, fossil-rich ground, and endless views make Bozzhyra the true jewel of Mangystau. Often called “another planet,” this landscape leaves a lasting emotional impact and defines the spirit of the Ustyurt Plateau.
Throughout the tour, travel in a comfortable off-road vehicle with an experienced driver-guide, enjoy freshly prepared meals in nature, and spend nights camping in carefully selected scenic locations.
