Overview

Join us for this 9 day Private Tour. The well-established ‘Northern Circuit' safari of northern Tanzania offers some of the world’s most diverse safari experiences, consisting of National Parks, game reserves, conservation areas and private concessions. Among these are the world-famous and iconic Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, and of course their less well-known neighbours, Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park.
These parks exist for one general purpose and that is to protect the amazing variety and abundance of wildlife in them, both resident and seasonal - and most of all, the world’s largest annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. Although this part of the world has become increasingly busy as a result of its reputation, it is still possible to escape the crowds and find a quiet corner if you know where to go.

Traditional Games for Kids Kids can learn some traditional games from Tanzanians, such “Rede” (a little like dodgeball) or “Bao” (a boardgame requiring chess-like strategy) among many others. Footprint Identifying How do you tell the difference between the footprint of a dik-dik and a Thomson’s gazelle? How about a leopard and a lion? A guide will take you on a walk and show you the tricks to identifying signs of wildlife. This impressive park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soft drink lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater National Park

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino. Supported by year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater
Day 7: Central & Northern Serengeti Game Drive
  • 1 stop
  • Meals: breakfast, lunch, snacks
  • Accommodation: Overnight at Serengeti Tented Camp
Serengeti National Park
  • 6h
Wildlife Viewing En Route to a designated accommodation Enjoy the journey to your designated accommodation, as there will be plenty to see along the way. Perhaps you will come across a chase between predator and prey; maybe you will spot a wake of vultures, or maybe you will be lucky enough to find a leopard relaxing high in the limbs of an acacia tree. Visit Olduvai Gorge Make a short stop at Olduvai Gorge, a deep ravine and site of fossilised remains of animals and hominids that date as far back as two million years. A brief lecture and small museum tour are included. Optional Serengeti Balloon Excursion A pre-dawn wake-up call leaves you time to drive to the balloon launch site in order to catch the most dramatic light. Then take to the skies just as the sun rises. Glide over the plains and acacia treetops, taking in spectacular views of the Seronera River Valley and the surrounding plains. After your descent, enjoy a magnificent champagne breakfast right in the midst of the Serengeti wilderness. Full-Day of Wildlife Viewing in the Serengeti Spend the whole day wildlife viewing. Your guide will point out hidden animals, like leopard hiding in a tree or lion concealed by tall grass. Traditional Games In your downtime, ask your guide on how to play the traditional game of Bao. Explore Camp with Your Guide For those who opt not to take the balloon excursion, there is much to discover within arm’s reach of the camp; learn how to identify animal footprints and bird calls with your guide.
Day 8: Eastern Serengeti Game Drive
  • 1 stop
  • Meals: breakfast, lunch, snacks
  • Accommodation: Overnight at Serengeti Tented Camp
Serengeti National Park
  • 8h
Morning Hike in the Eastern Serengeti Ecosystem Head out on a light hike this morning. The terrain will be fairly mild, but make sure that you’ve got comfortable shoes with good traction. Being out on the plains on foot at this time of day is magical. Wildlife Viewing as You Depart the Serengeti As you follow the meandering path out of Serengeti National Park, take in the gorgeous scenery and wildlife viewing before moving on to the next part of your adventure. Maasai Boma Visit Immerse yourself in the semi-nomadic culture of the Maasai by visiting a boma, which is a settlement of circular mud-and-dung Maasai homes. Many Maasai still roam the plains of northern Tanzania with their herds of cattle, maintaining their traditions while adapting to new ways of life. Maasai Storyteller Gather around the campfire to listen to a Maasai elder tell folktales, which are translated into English. The storey is not planned in advance, and you will hear it exactly as it is traditionally told.
