Next, explore Fasilides’ Bath, an ancient site used for the Timkat festival, where locals celebrate Epiphany with vibrant processions and rituals. Start your journey with an early flight or drive to Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its rock-hewn churches. Begin your exploration with the Northern Cluster of Churches, which includes Bete Medhane Alem, the largest monolithic church in the world, known for its grand size and impressive architecture. Next, visit Bete Mariam, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and Bete Meskel, with its beautifully crafted façade and intricate carvings. These churches, carved directly into the rock, are an awe-inspiring testament to Ethiopia’s religious history and architectural ingenuity. After a delicious lunch at Seven Olives, continue to the Southern Cluster, home to more iconic churches, including Bete Gabriel-Rufael, known for its beautiful design, and Bete Abba Libanos, a significant religious site. Take a flight from Lalibela to Axum, a historic city known for its ancient kingdom.
