Embark on a 4 day journey into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, beginning with pickup from Puerto Maldonado Airport or bus terminal. After a short welcome briefing at our office, where you can safely store large luggage, travel by private vehicle to the Tambopata River port. From there, enjoy a scenic boat ride deep into the Tambopata National Reserve, stopping along the way for a guided walk through pristine rainforest and a climb up a canopy tower to admire sweeping views of the Amazon basin. Upon arrival at the lodge, settle into your private room with an en suite bathroom and savour a traditional Amazonian lunch. In the afternoon, explore riverside rainforest trails to spot monkeys, colourful insects, and other wildlife. After dinner, unwind and spend your first night immersed in the sounds of the jungle.
The adventure continues early on day two with a boat ride to the stunning Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, where hundreds of macaws and parrots gather on mineral rich cliffs in a vibrant display of colour. Along the riverbanks, keep an eye out for capybaras, caimans, and monkeys. After breakfast near the clay lick, return to the lodge to relax before continuing towards your next lodge along the Madre de Dios River. In the afternoon, experience the rainforest canopy from above on a canopy walk and enjoy an exhilarating zip line adventure. As night falls, embark on a guided excursion to discover caimans and other nocturnal creatures along the river.
On day three, depart at dawn by boat to Lake Sandoval. After a short walk through well-preserved rainforest, reach the lake and enjoy a serene rowing boat ride to observe giant river otters, black caimans, monkeys, turtles, and a diverse range of birds. Return to the lodge for lunch, then visit a local Matsigenka family to learn about their customs and participate in traditional activities such as archery, cotton spinning and weaving, rope making, and fire-starting techniques. Conclude the day with a guided night walk to spot sloths, porcupines, reptiles, and nocturnal insects, followed by dinner and overnight at the lodge.
On the final day, visit Monkey Island on the Madre de Dios River, home to capuchins and other wildlife, with opportunities to spot sloths and turtles. Optional kayaking along the river allows further wildlife observation. After a farewell lunch at the lodge, return by boat and private transfer to Puerto Maldonado Airport or city centre, concluding an unforgettable Amazon experience filled with wildlife, culture, and adventure.
