What you can expect

Enjoy a 2-day experience that shows you the spiritual side of South Korea in the peaceful surroundings of Odaesan. Experience a stay at a Korean temple, with the opportunity to sample a day in the life of a Zen practitioner.

Day 1 (Sat) Start the tour with pick-up in Seoul. Enjoy a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Woljeongsa Temple, located on Mount Odaesan in Jinbu-myeon. Arrive at this majestic, verdant region and get changed into modest attire – trousers and a waistcoat – which fit comfortably over your clothes. Receive a brief orientation and learn about correct Buddhist etiquette inside the temple.

Sit down and savour the silence as you make Buddhist prayer beads until dinner is served. Before bedtime, in rooms separated for men and women, you'll have the unique opportunity of listening to the evening chimes of traditional Korean bells. Participate in a 30-minute Buddhist service, in awe of the monks' rhythmic rituals. Then it's lights out.

Day 2 (Sun) A new day begins with the ringing of the bells. Your first activity is a 30-minute morning service of meditation and chanting. Breathe deeply and reflect upon your once-in-a-lifetime experience. After a temple breakfast, explore at your leisure, heading to the mountain stream or hiking amongst the giant trees of Mount Odaesan.

Walk back to the temple for a traditional vegetarian meal, soaking up the calm stillness before your tour is completed with a journey back to Seoul.
