Overview

Learn to make Shanghai’s signature dumpling, xiao long bao, in this cooking class in Shanghai.
These are called soup dumplings because they have a broth inside the dumpling itself. Your teacher will be a passionate foodie who will show you the technique involved.
You’ll make some yourself and cook them two ways. At the end, eat them together, and leave with a full belly and the recipe.

This is for ages 3-100; children are welcome.

A small group of no more than 15 Vegan and vegetarian options are available.

Activity itinerary

Kitchen is located at Xintiandi area which is Shanghai's most integrated area with respect to old and new. English-speaking chef will tell you why the soup dumpling called "Xiaolongbao" and the storey behind this snack. You can learn how to put the soup into the Xiaolongbao. All the materials needed in the cooking class are included. Indulge in your own handmade xiaolongbao feast, the chef also will teach you the correct way to eat it. You’ll learn how to make both dough and filling with fragrant Chinese spices in a class where I also reveal how soup can be wrapped in a xiaolongbao, which is a type of dumpling. You will cook the xiaolongbaos in two ways, and you will learn how to make a yummy Chinese sauce to go with the xiaolongbaos. Finally, it’s time to enjoy our handmade xiaolongbaos together! 10:00 am: Meet at the cooking studio. 10:20 am: Introduction of the cooking culture and local ingredients. 11:00 am: Cooking session. 12:00 pm: Enjoy the meal with the class. 12:30 pm: End of the class with recipe.
