What you can expect
Day 1 – Babylon & Karbala
Arrival at Baghdad International Airport, then transfer to the hotel for a short rest. Begin the journey with a visit to the Ancient City of Babylon, one of the greatest centers of Mesopotamian civilisation, famous for the Code of Hammurabi, monumental walls, temples, and royal palaces that laid the foundations of law and urban life. Continue to the Borsippa Archaeological Site, home to the great ziggurat dedicated to Nabu, god of wisdom and writing, which played a vital role in Babylonian religious and intellectual life. Visit the Shrine of Prophet Job (Ayub), a sacred site symbolising patience and faith shared across Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Transfer to Karbala to visit the Imam Husayn Shrine and the Al-Abbas Shrine, powerful symbols of justice, sacrifice, loyalty, and courage. Overnight in Karbala.
Day 2 – Najaf & Kufa
Travel to Najaf and Kufa, two of the most important cities in Islamic history. Visit the Shrine of Maytham al-Tammar, a devoted companion of Imam Ali, followed by the Great Mosque of Kufa, one of the oldest mosques in Islam and closely linked to early Islamic governance. See the House of Imam Ali, associated with his time ruling from Kufa, then explore Wadi Al-Salam Cemetery, the largest cemetery in the world. Conclude the day at the Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf. Overnight in Najaf.
Day 3 – Southern Iraq
Visit Ancient City of Uruk, one of the world’s earliest cities and the birthplace of writing. Continue to the Ziggurat of Ur, a monumental Sumerian temple, then explore the Mesopotamian Marshes, a unique natural landscape preserving ancient ways of life. Stop at Adam’s Tree, a symbolic site linked to local tradition. Overnight in Basra, Iraq’s historic southern port city
Day 4 – Basra Heritage
Begin the day with a short tour of Basra Old City, exploring its historic areas and traditional architecture that reflect Basra’s role as a major cultural and trading hub for centuries. Visit the Armenian Churches of Basra, Continue to the Basra Museum, home to important artefacts from Mesopotamian, Islamic & modern Iraqi history
In the afternoon, depart Basra and travel north towards Baghdad, concluding the day with arrival and overnight in the capital.
Day 5 – Samarra & Mosul
Baghdad towards Samarra to visit Malwiya Minaret, one of the remarkable architectural landmarks of the Abbasid era. Continue to the Al-Askari Shrine, the resting place of Imam Ali al-Hadi and Imam Hasan al-Askari
After the visit, continue north to Mosul. Overnight in Mosul.
Day 6 Mosul
Old Mosul tour, visit Nimrud and Hatra, then return to Baghdad
Day 7 Baghdad
Visit Imam Musa al-Kadhim Shrine & Imam Muhammad al-Jawad Shrine, Old Baghdad walk, Aqarquf Ziggurat
