Protea Hotel by Marriott Livingstone

Protea Hotel by Marriott Livingstone

10/10 Excellent
"The helpfulness of the staff, the support, the protectiveness , were all above and beyond expectations. We really liked the hotel, and its location about half way between Livingstone town and Victoria Falls. Several malls and restaurants are a short walk away. We do recommend the Protea- it’s a great option if the ultra pricey riverfront lodges or the further away town options don’t work for you. Very good breakfast options too! Also very cool to see zebras randomly walking down the hotel driveway"

"Our room was about what I would expect for a mid-range guest house in Zambia. The beds were fairly comfortable and the room was clean. The adjoining bathroom was small, but it worked. we didn't actually eat the breakfast as we were out and about before it was served, but the cafe packed us a small breakfast the night before to take with us which was great. we did eat pizza one night and it was awesome! Some of the staff at the front desk were amazing and went above and beyond to help us book our day trips, the evening front desk person was friendly but not as helpful. I would probalby stay here again"

Maramba River Lodge

Maramba River Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"Wonderful stay at an authentic African lodge with beautiful views from their restaurant deck. We stayed in the family chalet which was on the outer rim of the campus. The staff was very hospitable and accommodating. We were able to borrow an electrical conversion box from the reception. Baboons were wandering during the morning and afternoon. We saw crocodiles and elephants in the early evening. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying in the National Park. We also strolled through the Avani and Royal Livingstone pathway from the Falls where we saw giraffe, impala, zebras and baboons."

Ngoma Zanga Lodge

Ngoma Zanga Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"This charming little lodge is the perfect base camp for exploring Livingstone. With accommodations for only 20 guests, it offers a peaceful, intimate atmosphere, supported by an attentive staff of 13 who are always happy to help in any way they can. The outdoor lounge area and pool are ideal for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. While the lodge is a bit too far to comfortably walk to most attractions, arranging taxi rides was easy and hassle-free. A special thank you to Stella, Kennedy, Destiny, and Naomi for going above and beyond to make our stay so memorable. Their warm hospitality truly made a difference. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Livingstone"

Avani Victoria Falls Resort

Avani Victoria Falls Resort

10/10 Excellent
"My wife, son, and I had an excellent and memorable stay here. Our room was spotlessly clean, thanks to the fantastic housekeeping team, and the showers were incredible—it felt just like standing under Victoria Falls! The food was great, particularly the breakfasts and the poolside restaurant. However, I would have loved to see more local Zambian dishes on the standard restaurant menu. That said, the evening cultural show was a highlight, offering a wonderful display of Zambian culture alongside delicious traditional food. The hotel’s location is unbeatable; we easily walked to Victoria Falls three times and even took a day trip across the border. Additionally, the staff was highly helpful in arranging our airport transfers and excursions. Another highlight is the animals roaming around. It's quite the experience to be lounging by the pool and have a giraffe standing next to you. Or looking out your window to see baboons or zebras. We would definitely return."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Simonga?
The best area to stay in Simonga is along the Zambezi River, particularly in lodges and camps located a short distance from the Victoria Falls entrance. This area provides direct access to the river's activities and offers a tranquil setting away from the main tourist crowds of Livingstone. You'll find properties located amongst natural bushland, often with views of the river or its tributaries. Many lodges are situated along the riverside road that runs west from Victoria Falls, offering a balance of seclusion and convenient access to the falls themselves.Couples looking for a romantic and exclusive experience will find this area ideal. The lodges here often provide private decks, outdoor showers, and personal service, allowing for a relaxed and intimate stay. Activities like sunset river cruises, canoeing, and fishing are readily available from these riverside properties, superb for creating memorable moments together.Families travelling with older children will also appreciate the offerings here. Many lodges provide spacious family suites or interconnected rooms, and the focus on wildlife and river activities offers engaging experiences for everyone.
When is the best time to go to Simonga?
The best time to go to Simonga is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.During these months, the weather is generally sunny and warm, with cooler evenings, making it comfortable for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing. The lower water levels in the Zambezi River and its tributaries mean animals gather around the remaining water sources, making them easier to spot. This period is also ideal for exploring Victoria Falls, as the drier conditions offer clearer views and better opportunities for activities like gorge swings and white-water rafting further down the river.Couples looking for a romantic and adventurous getaway will find this time particularly appealing. The pleasant weather allows for serene sunset cruises on the Zambezi, guided walking safaris, and relaxing by lodge pools. The clear skies are also superb for stargazing, adding a touch of magic to the evenings. For families, the dry season provides excellent conditions for various excursions. Children can enjoy boat trips to see hippos and crocodiles, visit local villages to learn about Zambian culture, or participate in junior ranger programmes offered by some lodges.
