Great staff. Facilities okay.

The staff were excellent - friendly and extremely helpful. The room was nice and very clean. The bathroom is small but not a problem. However, the tub drained very, very slowly and that was a problem. The location is excellent!!! That with the wonderful staff made the experience a 5 star one.

I stay here when the other hotels rates are too high as a last resort. Rooms need help. Bathrooms are wore out

Pleasantly surprised

I was really pleased with the hotel's condition. I was expecting it to be a little run-down, but the room was very nice. I didn't reserve oceanfront but received it and having a balcony made a big difference. The room had enough space to not feel too cramped - two beds, a larger table with two chairs, big closet, and room for a rollaway bed or room for kids to play. The bathroom was a little older and is on the small side, but was clean. Morning breakfast is a nice bonus. Beach access is on the second floor and you walk down stairs to the beach, so we had to carry our wheeled beach cart down the steps - not a big deal but something to consider. The hotel has a great deck area with plenty of chairs. We didn't use the pool, but it looked nice as well. Darlene on staff is just wonderful - we saw her several times at breakfast and she was always cheerful, had local stories and advice for things to do, and was great overall. The beach in front of the hotel is perfect and was never crowded. It's a short walk to the pier and while we drove to dinners, you could walk or bike to a few restaurants via a nice pedestrian path.

Just average

Do not try to check in early. Not accommodating. Would not call housekeeping to see if any room was available, but make you wait until 4pm. Also flies and flying bugs in the room. Good beachfront location and nice deck overlooking ocean, but will not stay here again, mainly due to the front reception desk staff. There are many other beachfront hotels to choose from.

Worst Customer Service EVER !

I paid in full more than 2 months ahead of our good friend’s Wedding that was to take place on the beach, 2 doors down from this hotel. I was booked into an Oceanfront room. 5 days before my arrival the hotel called to say that they had some maintenance issues with my room and would need to move me to Kill Devil Hills. I stated that I did not want to move to Kill Devil Hills, that my friend’s wedding was right there beside the hotel. The lady on the phone was rude! Indicated that they merely could not accommodate me. There was no way that many people, if any, could have paid in full more than 2 months in advance. Why wouldn't I have been given priority on another room if the one they had me in had maintenance issues? They merely dismissed my comments and said, "Look, we don't have a room for you.” I originally accepted a room in Kill Devil Hills as I couldn't miss the wedding. Later, I decided to cancel altogether. I was shocked when I called back to find that my card had already been credited and there was no record of any reservation at the Comfort Inn in Kill Devil Hills for me. So the woman I had spoken to originally, never even booked me a room at the other hotel. When I got to the Wedding, there was a TON of kids staying at the Comfort Inn. I don't think there was ever any maintenance problem. They merely wanted to accommodate a large party (there were buses parked outside of the hotel) and had essentially kicked me out. I'll never stay in a Comfort Inn again.
