The imposing eastern mountains and picturesque coastline make up the varied terrain of Michoacán. The state has many cultured cities interspersed between farms and the indigenous Nahuatl community. Chat to locals for a sense of the friendly culture.
Visit the state capital of Morelia in the Guayangareo Valley. It is known for the charming colonial buildings in its historic center, whose layout remains as it was in the 1500s. Look for the Federal Palace, the Mariano Matamoros Theater and the impressive façade and bell towers of the Morelia Cathedral. Relax in the Plaza de Armas and the Rose Garden on a typically hot and sunny summer day. Nights are cool year round due to the high altitude.
Travel to the western outskirts of Morelia to reach the town of Patzcuaro on the southern flank of its namesake lake. Get a boat to Janitzio Island to watch the fishermen who are known for using butterfly-shaped nets. As you make your way to the island, you can identify where the town of Janitzio is located. Just look for the enormous statue of revolutionary José María Morelos, with one arm raised to the sky, on the highest point of the island.
Further west is the quaint commune of Uruapan in the Purépecha Highlands. Inspect intriguing exhibits in La Huatapera Regional Museum and browse the stalls selling traditional food at the Antojitos Market. On the town’s outskirts is the Barranca del Cupatitzio National Park, with the mountainous Pico de Tancítaro National Park a 2-hour drive west.
For a change of scenery, visit the port city of Lázaro Cárdenas on the Pacific Coast. Enjoy a picnic in the Jesus Romero Park and admire the Municipal Palace. Work on your tan on Manzanillera Beach.
The state of Michoacán is located southeast along the Pacific Coast from Jalisco and Colima in southwestern Mexico. Fly to Morelia International Airport and get around the province by bus or rental car. Taxis are generally affordable in the cities.
Michoacán combines its dramatic scenery with Mexican tradition and pre-Hispancic culture.
Phenomenon property Excellent restaurant Very attentive staff Very comfortable beds A steal for a hotel of this quality
Perfect location across the street from the Cathedral and public square. Excellent food at the restaurant featuring regional special dishes
Great place clean. And. Fantastic food and pool was good. All personal very friendly. I will stay there again.
Location is amazing, super friendly, cafe upstairs has spectacular views. Overall it’s a great hotel I stay on average 10 nights a year and can never complain. Your definitely getting a lot more than what your paying for.
Great view of Morelia; right next to Paseo Altozano mall where are restaurants and stores. If you want to have a great view, specially from the pool floor; and doesn not matter not being in downtown, this is a great option
Rooms are huge. Love the vintage style . Wooden Doors are engraved. Cute Balconies. Fresh water upon arrival. We will definitely stay here again
This place is within walking distance of main cathedral, plaza, restaurants, EVERYTHING pretty much. Clean, safe feel. Breakfast buffet was amazing. I would definitely recommend
