"Paid a twin room, but received a double bed on the check in day instead. The receptionist said housekeeping were home for the day and they could not fix it, even though their system noted it was a twin. Was told to deal with the double or have the couch set up. Turns out, all they had to do was unzip the mattress and remake the beds. It kind of felt like they didn't want to make the effort to fix the situation at first."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Essé?
The best area to stay in Essé is within the village centre itself. This compact village is ideal for those seeking a tranquil and authentic Breton experience. The main square, Place de l'Eglise, is the heart of Essé, and the surrounding streets, like Rue de Rennes and Rue des Mégalithes, host the few local shops and services. The village is most known for the impressive La Roche-aux-Fées dolmen, a significant Neolithic monument just a short walk from the village centre.Couples looking for a peaceful getaway will find Essé particularly appealing. The village offers a relaxing base to explore the local countryside, enjoy leisurely walks to the dolmen, and experience the quiet rhythm of village life. It's a great spot for unwinding without the distractions of a larger town.Families might also enjoy staying within Essé for its calm environment and the educational draw of La Roche-aux-Fées.
When is the best time to go to Essé?
The best time to visit Essé is during the late spring and summer months, specifically from May to September. This period offers the most agreeable weather for exploring the region. Temperatures are generally mild to warm, making it pleasant for outdoor activities such as visiting the Château de Fougères or walking around the historic centre of Rennes. You'll find longer daylight hours, which means more time to sightsee and enjoy the natural beauty of Brittany. For those who enjoy a lively option and local events, July and August are particularly good. Many towns in Brittany host festivals, markets, and outdoor performances during these peak summer months. While it's the busiest time, Essé itself remains relatively tranquil, providing a peaceful base from which to explore. If you prefer fewer crowds and slightly cooler temperatures, late spring (May-June) or early autumn (September) are excellent alternatives.
