Recôncavo and Cachoeira - the African inland
On this tour you will discover the unique region around the Bay of All Saints, the Recôncavo. This is the most African region of Brazil that received the first sugar cane plantations and the first slaves, imported from black Africa. This is a “back to the roots” tour that will give you an unforgettable experience of expatriation.
Leaving Salvador, we pass the poor suburbs of Salvador and, later, a succession of fields for agriculture and grasslands. A whirling road passing by bamboo plantations takes us first to the city of Santo Amaro where we visit the amazing and busy local market and some streets and squares in the centre. Then, the road takes us to the historical city of Cachoeira that lies majestically in the valley of the Paraguaçu river. Here, we stroll through the picturesque streets with its old colonial houses and churches and there will be time for lunch. In the afternoon we visit the cigar factory of Dannemann where the famous top class cigars are still hand rolled.
