Cracking hotel - couldn't ask for more

Posted 03-May-2015
Pros: Quality and selection of food available I think was the highlight.
Cons: Fresh drinking water daily would be good.
Location: Hotel is walking distance to the beach and shopping centres. The old port is just along the promenade if you want a little earthy experience.
We've just spent a week at the hotel and can truly say that we couldn't have asked for anything else. Great location, good food and top staff through the hotel. Room was clean and tidy - could do with fresh bottle of water every day rather than just first day but only a small point. We took the bed & breakfast option which allowed us to experience the other restaurants on the grounds - portofino restaurant was superb. Poseidon was too expensive and limited menu choice. Buffet breakfast was the best ever! Would love to go back again.

Great staff, great location, noisy rooms

Posted 03-May-2015
Pros: Staff were great, and the pool lovely.
Cons: The room I was in was looking a bit tired, and was noisy because of the poor sound insulation.
Location: The location is lovely, right on the sea with great views along the coast. There's both posh shops, and tourist ones nearby. And a market on Sat/Thurs
Went as a solo traveler, and overall had a good time. But, the sound insulation between the rooms is dreadful and if you have even moderately noisy neighbours you will hear them all the time. Also, the balconies/patios are not smoke free, so smoke can drift into you room if you have the door open when the neighbours are smoking. The pools and facilities are lovely, the staff were super, especially the girls in the buffet restaurant. The food was good, but slightly monotonous. Buffet breakfast was great, but the only lunch option was the table service restaurant as the buffet wasn't open for most of the days I was where. The food is fine, but limited, so eating out was tempting even though I was all inclusive. The evening buffet was okay for choice, especially the desserts and starters, but the mains were not great as they were samey every night. That said the steaks cooked to order were lovely, as was the fish, but the veg to accompany them weren't fab. But don't be put off, it's a nice place, worth doing All inclusive.

Close to access to the beach

Posted 24-Apr-2015
Pros: The décor and the appearance
Cons: The quality of the rooms, the sound proofing , the room facilities and the quality and pricing of the food on offer.
Location: Location is fine the main thing to do is sun bathe, play on the beach and walk along the promenade.
I found this hotel to be very disappointing to what I expected. The appearance of the hotel is very impressive as is the reception area and the check in procedures etc. The room we were given was a third floor room immediately next to a stairwell. The noise insulation was terrible and we could hear every person using the stairs. We could also hear every movement from the rooms adjacent and above including toilet usage etc. The room whilst very clean and pleasant appeared very dated and only one single plug socket was available. There were no tea and coffee making facilities and even the drinking water was charged at exorbitant rates. The shower was fed from the bath taps and was very hard to regulate with very little pressure. If we had had children the temperature of the hot water could have burnt them when trying to regulate the shower. Whilst we were on a bed and breakfast basis we tried the hotel restaurants and the quality of food was atrocious so much so we ate out in external restaurants. Overall the hotel is no better than 3 star.

Very comfortable and convenient.

Posted 13-Apr-2015
Conveniently situated with a level walk to all local amenities. The hotel and grounds are immaculate. The hotel breakfast buffet has literally hundreds of fresh, hot/cold and cooked to order options. The hotel security is very stringent, plentiful sun-loungers, parasols and fresh towels. Lifeguards on duty, pool bar and other restaurants very popular. A choice of pools e.g. saline, fresh and outdoor heated (throughout the year), child and baby. A fantastically resourced children's club with own paddle pool and lots of other equipment. Nothing is too much trouble. Response to requests from the room dealt with promptly. 24-hour taxis at the entrance to take you wherever you like. No need to go anywhere else but easy walk to lots of shops from cheap and cheerful to (very) high end designer. Reading room, quiet relaxation 'sitting rooms' set in the grounds, spa, gym, theatre (with 7-night per week entertainment), tennis, mountain biking whatever you want really.

Beautiful hotel!

Had connecting rooms with our 10 and 12 year old. Wonderful hotel and close by many restaurants and excursions. Hotel featured many amenities to keep the kids entertained throughout the day.

A fabulous way to unwind

Posted 05-Apr-2015
Pros: Everything, lovely views, great service, nothing too mucho trouble.cleanliness impeccable.
Cons: Slightly softer beds, better decaf coffee.
Location: We were sun lounger potatoes, but great facilities in the hotel for sport, spa, eating, entertainment.
We booked this hotel at the last minute and only had 4 days to stay there. Neither of us has been to Tenerife before and knew it was commercialised but Athelia was like a little oasis. Only twenty minutes from the airport €26, the weather, staff and accommodation were superb. Do have breakfast at the hotel it's lovely, there is a choice of everything. Comparable with the Berlagio in Vegas. We also had dinner at the hotel which if booked in advance was only €30 per person and was very varied with lots of fish/seafood and local dishes. We took advantage of some of the pool fitness activities, which were good fun and also played tennis. As for Tenerife itself, turn left out of the hotel, not right, great shops and nice bars going right fulfilled my worse nightmares! Will be returning just perfect for total relaxation. Only down side beds are a little firm and difficult to get consistent decaf coffee, so no complaints
