With trade winds sweeping in from the Sahara, August is the hottest time of year in Tenerife. As such, this is a great time to splash around in what has been voted the “best water park in the world", Siam Park. This four-acre park houses 12 rides, including everything from lazy rivers to wave pools.
Sun-drenched and scenic, Rhodes is an ideal destination to visit during August. Along the eastern coast is where you’ll find the best beaches, with Elli Beach one of the finest. In close proximity to the island’s idyllic Old Town, and with a whole host of water sports on offer, this Blue Flag beach perfectly balances culture with entertainment.
Turkey enjoys some of its best warm weather during August, with temperatures hovering between 26 to 31°C. This makes it a great time to head to Turkey’s cultural centre, Istanbul, to see some of the country’s most iconic landmarks. In Fatih, for instance, you’ll find world-renowned sites such as Topkapı Palace, which is now an Ottoman-era museum. Here you will also fing Gülhane Park, the oldest and largest park in Istanbul.

Those looking to embrace the party season should head to San Antonio, where world-famous clubs, such as Pacha and Amnesia, blast out beats until the early hours. However, if you’d prefer a more laidback Balearic getaway, then head to the east side of the island - where quiet coastal towns, such as Santa Eulalia, offer cosy restaurants and stunning scenery.
Sicily has an exotic vibe come August. Over the course of the month, local Sicilians take to the cobbles to celebrate their famous street festivals. One of the most popular is Madonna della Luce, which takes place in the middle of the month. Here you will see street dancing, live music, and a procession of boats sailing into the beautiful Cefalù harbour.
