  • Antalya Family holidays

The walled city at the heart of Antalya is just one of the historical features that makes it a fantastic location for cheap family holidays in Turkey. Hadrian's Gate has the kind of name you might expect to see in one of your kids' fantasy novels, but the names get more exotic as it leads you into the district of Kilincarslan in the town's old quarter of Kaleici. The narrow streets are lined with minarets and ancient architecture, making for great sightseeing and photo opportunities, along with the chance to teach your children a little about the local culture as well.

    Through Hadrian's Gate

This local landmark is a particularly good place to go exploring on cheap family holidays in Antalya, as it is the entry point into Kilincarslan as mentioned above. Why is this important? Because the district is one of Kaleici's least touristy areas - a taste of the true character of the old town, which as you explore onwards, will eventually bring you out into the busier tourist districts where you and the kids can stop for a snack or to take some refreshments on board.

    Roaming with the Romans

If the kids are into archaeology or love hearing stories about the Roman Empire, then hire a car or take a tour up to Myra. It's a 30 km drive away, but there's a Roman amphitheatre dating to the 2nd century, which is still in a state of good repair. Check if it will be open to the public during your visit - at certain times of year it is even used as a concert venue, and there are not many places in the world where you can still catch a show at a genuine Roman venue, making any such event a great addition to your family holiday in Antalya.

    Keeping the kids amused

Whether you stay within walking distance in the town, or drive to the attractions in the surrounding area, there's plenty to keep the kids entertained on family holidays in Antalya. Pay close attention to the description of your holiday when you place your booking, as you may be able to benefit from scheduled activities in your hotel - either as a family, or just for the children while you go and find your own fun and freedom elsewhere around the town.

Why Antalya is so great for families

With a rich Roman heritage and strong local culture, holidays to Antalya offer something for all the family to enjoy. Sample delicious new dishes or explore the ancient old town in Kaleici and expose your little ones to new cultures and broaden their minds at a young age. Stunning architecture and great food, coupled with the warm waters of the Turquoise Coast where you can swim and relax on the rugged beaches, mean you can enjoy Antalya family holidays that tick all the boxes.
