- Greek Islands Family holidays
The vast number of land masses, all of different sizes and characters, makes cheap family holidays in the Greek Islands ideal for trip after trip, as you are never likely to run out of new places to try, all within a relatively small area of the Mediterranean Sea. Each island is different, sometimes dramatically so, as some are volcanic in origin, others have golden sandy beaches, and some are more rocky. Over 200 are permanently populated, and visiting them all could easily last a lifetime, or until your children are grown up with a family of their own to take on holiday with them.
An endless coastline
OK, the combined coastline isn't literally endless, but at 16,000 km in length, it will take a lot of family holidays in the Greek Islands to get around it all. This is part of the appeal of the islands though, as you are never going to run out of things to see. Including the uninhabited land masses, there are an estimated 6,000 Greek Islands in total, so perhaps you might want to extend your adventures by hiring a boat and sailing to one of the smaller islands where you are the only humans - giving you the feeling of having conquered a rock of your own for the day.
From some of the smallest islets to some of the biggest land masses in the group, Rhodes and Crete Island are two of the more popular destinations for family holidays in the Greek Islands. For more of the larger islands, you have to look away from the Greek mainland, and instead the slightly further distance out to the archipelagos of the Aegean and Ionian Seas.
Summer on the air
Summer is naturally a peak time for cheap family holidays in the Greek Islands, with the kids off school and a good number of holidays on the market to choose from. It's also the time of year when the Meltemi can blow in across the islands, and it will often cover much of the total grouping, giving them a more similar climate for as long as it lasts. The Meltemi is a cool air current, bringing fresher air with it, and can be very refreshing especially in midsummer when the daytime sun is at its hottest.
