  • Cyprus Family holidays

If you want to visit a part of the Mediterranean that you have not travelled to before, cheap family holidays on Cyprus are a good place to start. The island - a republic in its own right - is at the far eastern end of the sea, and closer to Syria and Turkey than to any of the more commonly thought-of Mediterranean countries like Greece or Italy. It's the third largest island in the Med, and has a well-developed tourist market, so you can expect a thoroughly enjoyable vacation during your time on the island.

    A fine climate

Like most Mediterranean destinations, family holidays to Cyprus offer a consistent climate, hot at the peak of summer and warm for much of the rest of the year. Temperatures typically reach into the 30°C, which may be a little warm for very young travellers, but older children should be fine as long as they stay well hydrated, wear loose cotton clothing to protect against the sun, and apply plenty of sun cream when swimming. To avoid the very hottest days, travel at any time out of the peak season and you should still find daytime temperatures of more than 20°C.

    In the eurozone

Cyprus joined the single currency Eurozone in 2008, which again makes it a great destination for family holidays if you're used to travelling within Europe. Cheap family holidays in Cyprus mean you can take any currency you have left over from previous holidays anywhere in the Eurozone, and if you're interested in seeing the many different national designs used on the currency, it's a chance to get your hands on some bearing the Cypriot imagery.

    Finding the best value

Taking your children on cheap family holidays to Cyprus is a great way to get a fabulous vacation at a good price. The island has been a leading holiday destination for decades, but is still slightly off the beaten track compared with the other Mediterranean islands, especially including the Balearics. Combined with the level of competition from hotels on the island, this means there are often some very good deals to be had. The mature tourism market also means families and younger children are well catered for, so your hotel might offer all kinds of entertainment to attract you to book your break and take your children there.

Why Cyprus is so great for families

Fancy a family holiday on a sun-kissed island with stunning beaches and friendly locals? Then you don't have to go all the way to the Caribbean. Cyprus family holidays tick all of those boxes and more. Splash around in the warm Mediterranean Sea, with calm currents that are safe for the little ones. Then check out the beautiful food on the island, a mix of Greek and Turkish influences, and broaden the kids' culinary horizons. As it's in the Eurozone, it also makes travel that little bit easier, which is great when you're travelling with kids.
