When it comes to an ambitious city like Dubai, it’s clear, from the manmade palm tree shaped island to the towering Burj Khalifa – and everything else in between – that the sky’s the limit when it comes to imagination. That philosophy applies to many of its hotels, which tend to follow their own lead. The following five, each featuring an excellent range of facilities and services mare a destination in themselves thanks largely to their unusual architecture and design.
Jumeirah Al Naseem
The design of the five-star Jumeirah Al Naseem was inspired by the Bedouin traditions of pearl diving in this part of the world. Step out from your room onto the palm-fringed terrace and you’ll not only be moments away from some of the hotel’s top facilities, including a full-service spa and numerous restaurants, you’ll also be a few steps from the private beach. Don’t miss Ambar, atop the hotel’s Palmery, with its modern take on a traditional Arab Mezzeh Bar.
JA Ocean View Hotel
The clue is in the name at the JA Ocean View Hotel in Dubai – all of its rooms open out onto a balcony with fantastic panoramas across the brilliant-blue waters of the Arabian Gulf. Pamper yourself in the Calm Spa, with its treatment rooms, steam baths and sauna, before sampling traditional Arabic cooking at the Sehr Al Bahar restaurant, an open-air dining experience serving mezze and grills. Kids will love the activities on offer in the CoolZone, as well as the children’s splash pool.
Shaped like an Egyptian pyramid, and rising up against an Arabian sky, Raffles Dubai is not only a five-star hotel but an architectural landmark in the city. Beyond the design you’ll discover a whole host of facilities and services to enjoy during your stay, including a spa, outdoor pool and health club. Take time out in the landscaped grounds that surround the hotel, where you’ll find the Raffles Garden, an Arabic-themed dining experience, and regular BBQ nights.
Jumeirah Beach Hotel
Rising up like a wave right where the city meets the sea, Jumeirah Beach Hotel is one of Dubai’s most visually impressive hotels. Located right on the beach, this five-star hotel is perfect if you are looking to both relax and have a little fun. Unwind on the terrace in the warm breeze or join in with the different activities on offer, from the Wild Wadi Waterpark to learning how to create stunning sand art on the hotel’s private beach.
Atlantis The Palm
If you were to approach Dubai from the sea, one of the first landmarks that would come into view would be the Atlantis The Palm, a stunning example of contemporary Arabic architecture that rises up from the beach in dramatic fashion. In and around the hotel you’ll find numerous things to see and do, including the Aquaventure waterpark and Dolphin Bay for your very own dolphin encounter. Another unusual highlight of the hotel is the Lost Chambers Aquarium, home to 65,000 marine animals.
