From the churning windmills in the Zaanse Schans to the cheese weighing house in Edam, this tour highlights everything typical Dutch.

Language: multilingual live guide English, Spanish and German
Duartion:5,5 hours

Escape the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam on a half-day guided tour of the Dutch countryside, starting with short drive to the windmill village of Zaanse Schans.

See the historic working windmills and watch traditional craftsmen at work, making clogs and other artefacts. There will be some free time to explore the village on your own, before travelling through the distinctive polders (land reclaimed from the water) of the Beemster area.

From there continue on to Edam. Edam’s ancient streets and tranquil canals are lined by beautiful 17th century buildings. Most famous in Edam is beyond any doubt the public weighing house, where in summer still every Wednesday the famous Edam Cheese is being sold.

After a stroll around this history-rich town, you’ll have the opportunity to see how Edam’s world-famous cheese is made and, of course, to taste it in a closeby cheesefarm.

Finally, you will stop in the seaside village of Volendam. This typical fishing village with its bustling harbour has been a major tourist attraction as early as 1875. People come from all over to see the small buildings and houses. This is a great place to pick up souvenirs for those at home or a memento for yourself and to have photo taken in traditional Dutch costume

Edam was a lovely tour of a quaint Dutch village. The cheese factory was nothing more than an opportunity to buy cheese. The tour of Volendam was a shopping stop. The windmill village was interesting but a. It disappointing in that you had to pay an additional 5 euros to enter a windmill. Nice tour as long as you are aware of what you are buying

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable gladly took our photo. The cheese demonstration was great and they were generous with the samples and so many varieties to try. The only down side I felt was we were rushing when we did have free time. We really didn’t have time to have a meal and shop

This is not a great tour during the winter. It stops at a cheese factory which products are everywhere in Amsterdam, including the airport. We also didn't get enought time in Volendam to eat and walk. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and nice. Overall, I would not recommend this tour.
