Unearth the secrets of Malaysian cuisine and gain insight into the country’s food culture. During this hands-on experience, learn how to make some of the country's most popular dishes from professional chefs. Plus, have a chance to walk through the spice garden and terraces.

This class is perfect if you're eager to learn more about Malaysia’s unique culinary traditions. Begin the lesson with a walk around the Tropical Spice Garden, Southeast Asia's award-winning garden with one-of-a-kind cooking school surrounded by jungle trees, wildlife, small herb terraces and a glimpse of the Andaman Sea.

Next stop for a relaxing steaming cup of herbal tea sweetened with stevia leaves at the Bamboo Garden before making your way to the kitchen. As things heat up, a cloud of fragrant aromas has your stomach grumbling in anticipation.

After some safety instructions, roll up your sleeves and learn how to cook local favourites such as Nasi Lemak (fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk), Assam Laksa (noodles in sour fish gravy), tandoori chicken, or even concoct refreshing spice-inspired drinks and jot down the recipes as instructed by your expert chefs – each specialising in Nyonya, Malay and Indian cuisines.

After your hard work, finish your day as you indulge in the delicious meal you made at the pavilion and then browse the impressive selection of herbs and spices originating from Penang, Colombo and Bali at the gift shop.

Started with a very informative tour of the spice gardens. Chef Jess lead us through step by step to make our lunch of 3 traditional Chinese dishes, 2 mains & desert. So much food. Highly recommend if you enjoy spending time in the kitchen.

My husband and I loved this Cooking Class. We learned to cook beef rending, banana fritters and a healthy green salad. I am an inexperienced cook and was nervous, but Chef Rohana made it all seem so fun - and I loved the meal that I cooked. This was one of our most fun experiences in Malaysia. I highly recommend it. Everyone knows how good the food in Penang is, why not try to cook it. And the tour of the spice garden was also very good and the tour guide very informative. We bought lots of goodies at the gift shop including some really cool, unique, traditional clothes.

The tour of the garden was interesting and our guide was very knowedgeable. We got to smell, touch and taste herbs and spices along the way and enjoy a cup of tea. The cooking class was great we all had our own cooking station and prepared a main and dessert. We recieved a printed copy of the recipes and got to keep our apron. Our instructer Bee was lovely and had a great sense of humour. After the class we ate our dishes outside at a picnic table with a glass of nutmeg juice. I highly recommend this activity and it was good value for money. Catch a "grab" or a taxi as the walk from the bus stop is a bit scary (narrow road and no foot path)
