We will take you to the heart of “Tardo-Barocco del Val di Noto”, to discover the monuments and the territory of Ragusa, which are the set of the TV series “Il Commissario Montalbano”; you will visit significant and fascinating places in the Ragusa area.
The tour includes the visit of Donnafugata Castle, a neo-Gothic noble residence, immersed in the Ragusan countryside, where you can visit the nineteenth-century interiors and the big green park with some fun “distractions”, created to brighten the days for the guests of the Castle, among which the “Labyrinth” made with dry stone walls.
The next stop will be the city of Ragusa, of which we will travel the high streets of the historical centre, we will visit the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, we will looked the characteristic “Mascheroni” of Palazzo Bertini (the Beggar, the Noble and the Merchant) up to reach Largo Santa Maria where we will admire the beautiful scenery of Ibla, with its monumental noble palaces and the majestic churches in the Baroque style, including Palazzo Cosentini and the Cathedral of San Giorgio.
Another stop will be the city of Modica, the city of the “Contea”, one of the major Sicilian cities until the early twentieth century, also rich in palaces and baroque churches. Here we will walk the small streets of the historic centre of “Modica Alta”, passing in front of Palazzo Tommasi Rosso, at the “Castello dei Conti” until you reach the Duomo of San Giorgio; continuing our walk we will arrive at the church of San Pietro and the historical centre of “Modica Bassa”.
The most scenic place of this tour, will be Scicli, built on the crossroads of three valleys of torrents, with houses, palaces and churches that climb and set in the limestone rock of the Hyblaean Mountains; here we will look Palazzo Beneventano, Palazzo Fava, the churchs of San Bartolomeo, San Matteo and we will visit Palazzo di Città (city hall), used for the TV series “Il Commissario Montalbano”.
Finally, after skirting the seaside town of Sampieri, after passing through the village of Donnalucata, one of the small seaside villages of the Ragusa coast, along the seafront of Marina Ragusa, the main seaside resort of the coast of Ragusa, we will reach Punta Secca, home of the “Casa di Montalbano”.
