Description

Explore Iceland's mesmerising scenery on this tour that reads like a page out of an adventure storybook. Travel across Hellisheiði pass and glimpse stunning black-sand beaches, the quaint southern town of Vik, and the thundering Seljalandsfoss Waterfall on a memorable full-day excursion from Reykjavik.

Get picked up from your hotel in central Reykjavík and travel east over Hellisheiði pass. In Iceland's southern lowlands, reach the Sólheimajökull Glacier. Meander its frozen expanses, noting its bright white snow and icy blue formations. Then, transition from the tundra to the seashore as you venture further to Reynisfjara Beach—the place where the roaring Atlantic Ocean hugs Iceland's southern shore. Just beyond the beach's black sands, glimpse Reynisdrangar basalt stacks rising like giants out of the sea.

Next, visit Iceland's most southern town. In Vík, learn about Iceland's only war, visit a historic church, and stroll through Víkurprjón—a locally renowned wool factory. After enjoying lunch at your own expense in Vík, return to Reykjavik. On the way, stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Wander inside a small cave where you can view the falls' crushing cascade from a unique perspective.

The south shore tour was excellent despite a late start when our original guide called out. Heimid was an amazing guide, providing tons of stories and facts about the areas we visited and Iceland in general. Due to our later start, he even took us on a special short hike near the fallen glacier to make up for it. Overall it was a great adventure and I will definitely book with Arctic Adventures in the future for more smaller group tours.

There were just two of us on this tour, and we were given the option to glacier hike with the rest of the people on board the bus on a different tour if we wanted to, but we chose to continue with the South Shore Tour, wanting a lazier day of beautiful scenery. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the wildlife on the island and geological processes with the glacier and volcanoes - this is coming from two geologists! We had a wonderful time, it was very easy-going and an interesting commentary full of anecdotes. The wool factory was an interesting quick stop, and the waterfalls were magnificent. Definitely worth considering, the smaller size of the tour bus means a more personal experience and you can ask lots of questions.

Absolutely brilliant trip, great guide Jun, small friendly group and time to really explore all the amazing, beautiful and unique landscape. Highly recommend this company. We also went on the Golden Circle Tour with guide Benedict, volcano enthusiast! A must if you have time.
