Description

Explore Iceland's southern coast by bus during the day, learning about the spectacular scenery with the help of a GPS-sensitive audio-guide. Stop at black-sand beaches, wild rock formations, and stunning waterfalls, and then continue your adventure into the night as you seek out the surreal Northern Lights.

Get picked up from your hotel and settle into a seat on the bus, plugging into the GPS tablet to listen to an informative audio-guide as you drive. Hear facts about Iceland and the passing scenery as you drive through the lava fields beneath Hengill mountain and down to the coastal farmlands. Spot the snow-dusted cap of the volcano Hekla and the glaciers of Eyjafjalljökull, and look out over the Westman Islands.

Stop at the breath-taking waterfall of Seljalandsfoss, where a 200-foot (60-metre) cascade tumbles down over the entrance to a secret cavern, and at Skógafoss, which falls over a cliff in a sheer whitewater sheet. Make your way to the Sólheimajökull Glacier on your way to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, where you can snap photos of the sea stacks and black rock formations before continuing on to Vík.

Return to Reykjavík, and then, weather-permitting, set out in the evening in search of the dancing spectacle of the Northern Lights. A specially trained guide shares tips on how to photograph this phenomenon as you watch the shifting curtains of light paint the star-studded sky in glowing hues of pink, yellow, and green.
