Description

Reykjanes peninsula is a gem which has not yet been fully discovered by mass travellers, so take the advantage of that and get away from the crowds! Reykjanes Geopark has many geological wonders and the landscape is often described as from another planet.

You can choose to be dropped off at the Blue Lagoon, KEF airport or back in Reykjavik.

You will visit two magnificent lakes; first, you will stop at a viewpoint above the lake Kleifarvatn and enjoy the dramatic scenery. The other lake called Graenavatn is formed by a volcanic crater. Its colour is stunning - it gets its green colour from a high content of sulphur and considerable depth.

Next stop is geothermal area Krysuvik - Seltun where you can take a stroll between colourful, bubbling hot springs.

You will take a refreshment break in a fishing town Grindavik and continue on to an exciting stop at the lava cliffs Brimketill with wild breaking waves. The worse the weather the better the experience!

You will visit the area of Gunnuhver - steaming mud pools and enjoy the view of one of Iceland’s most popular lighthouses - Reykjanesviti. Nearby cliffs provide a great view of a birdlife.

You will walk over the Bridge between continents which takes you over a major fissure providing clear evidence of the presence of a diverging plate margin.

Enjoy the “small-group” element of the tour - talk to the guide, get to know your fellow travellers and feel like in a family, not in a crowd.

The tour was excellent. I chose it because I am already doing a 9 day tour of Iceland and Reykjanes was not going to be included in this trip. Gummi was very knowledgeable and gave us so much interesting information about Iceland and the Reykjanes area. We dawdled a bit at lunchtime but he did well to still drop me off at the Blue Lagoon on time. Very interesting and a great compliment to my Iceland tour.

We liked the hot springs, the lava cliffs and the bridge between the continents. It is a little like on the moon. It is something so different from home. We did not see the lakes because there was a bicycle race. Nobody's fault.
