Queer Berlin Half-Day Walking Tour

by The Original Berlin Walks Duration 3h 30m Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is £13

Get to know what queer life in Berlin is like today! Visit the gay district, Schöneberg, and the liberal Kreuzberg, and learn about the gay, lesbian, and transgender figures that have shaped the German capital’s past and present, and continue to influence the future. Finish your tour near to the Gay Museum.

Starting from our meeting point in East Berlin you’ll learn all about life for LGBTQ individuals in communist East Germany. Your guide will then whisk you away on the metro to the trendy district of Kreuzberg; famous for its cultural diversity, art scene, left-leaning politics, and of course tolerance.

You’ll then move on to Berlin’s best known gay district, Schöneberg, where your guide will explain how the district was shaped by figures such as Christopher Isherwood, Anita Berber, and Marlene Dietrich. You’ll learn the how Berlin’s history as a place of tolerance began with Frederick the Great in the 18th Century, was thrust into a period ahead of its time in ‘the Golden Twenties’ thanks to sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld, and how the Nazis destroyed this burgeoning period of hedonism and equality just as it was beginning.

Your tour finishes near to the Gay Museum in Schöneberg, next to the U-Bahn station Nollendorf Platz, where you can easily take the one of four metro lines to wherever you need to be.
