Description

Take a tour with Rail Explorers: Rhode Island Division and experience the magic of the railway like never before! Ride the rails on our pedal-powered 'Rail Explorers' - a unique activity suitable for everyone.

The Rhode Island Division operates along the Old Colony Railway, built in 1862. The rails meander alongside spectacular Narragansett Bay offering riders unique views that include Jamestown, the Mount Hope Bridge, Hog Island Lighthouse, and coastal woodlands.

The Northern Ramble is a leisurely 6 mile expedition along spectacular Narragansett Bay with views only visible from the unique perspective of the railway. The Northern Ramble traverses private waterfront estates, 2 golf courses, the Newport Preservation Society Topiary Gardens and the Audubon Society Nature Preserve.

One way tour and shuttle bus. Please allow up to 2 hours for this tour.

Know Before You Book

  • Children love Rail Exploring and there is no minimum age limit to ride. However, children must be accompanied by a rider at least 16 years of age to operate the brakes.

  • For safety all riders must be secured in their own seat. The only exception is infants, who must be secured in a chest harness to an adult rider. Infants in a chest harness travel free.

  • We offer toddler harnesses for additional security for little explorers. It is not safe for children to be seated on your lap and this is strictly forbidden.

  • Riders will be assigned seating in either a Tandem Explorer (2 seats) or a Quad Explorer (4 Seats). Wherever possible, groups will be seated together in adjacent railbikes.

  • Rail Explorers vehicles are extremely safe and strong. There are no height or weight restrictions on riders.
