Montevideo Day Tour

by Signature Tours Duration 16h 30m Non-refundable No booking or credit card fees
per traveller Price is £424

Take a boat from Buenos Aires and sail across the Rio de la Plata to reach Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Spend a day strolling cobblestone streets and admiring centuries-old architecture with a combination of guided sightseeing and free time.

Meet up with your guide for the day outside your hotel, where you are picked up and taken to the ferry. Grab a seat on a spacious boat and throw off the mooring lines while your captain sets a course for the country across the “Sweet Sea” – what the first settlers called the Río de la Plata. When you arrive, explore the district’s museums, parks and cathedrals, snapping photos as you listen to intriguing commentary about the area's history.

Enjoy an afternoon bobbing between elegant waterfront mansions and charming marinas before you tie up at a nearby dock. See Montevideo's sights on your own or opt to grab lunch at a local restaurant before getting on the boat and heading back to Buenos Aires.

Makes for a long day, but really good way to get a feel for the city. Just don't queue at the customs check entering Montevideo. With only hand baggage, you can go straight through and save 20 or 30 minutes.

Great day - definitely exceeded our expectations. Montevideo is a fascinating place, but if it is your first visit, you will need a good guide to appreciate it properly. Our guide Maria del Pilar Deangel was wonderful - engaging, informative, enthusiastic and charming - definitely one of the best guides we have encountered! Montevideo old town is wonderful and charming in parts, but neglected and dilapidated in other parts. It still has 'great bones' and is blessed with a plethora of magnificent old buildings. It wouldn't be too difficult to transform it into one of South America's 'most desirable' boutique cities. Just needs a bit of vision, leadership and strategic investment - Uruguay 2030 World Cup Bid = Montevideo Old Town Revitalisation Strategy?

The activity was good. The only thing that I'm not satisfied with is the fact that when the other 2 tour participants and I arrived to Buenos Aires, we didn't see anyone holding up a sign with our names on it. We waited and waited. Once all the passengers had unboarded, the other 2 tour participants and I got tired of waiting and decided to share a taxi back to our hotels.
